Raisin Bran Cinnamon Almond

Raisin Bran Cinnamon Almond

Raisin Bran is a classic cereal that has been able to stick around and stay relevant year after year. Well Cinnamon Almond seems like a nice flavor addition to Raisin Bran. Nothing so crazy that it takes away from the simplicity of the cereal, but enough of a flavor change to make sure you don’t feel like you are eating the same cereal.

Cinnamon is the hot flavor in food products recently so it makes sense that Raisin Bran Cinnamon Almond would be the next brand extension. Let us just hope they it is a nice subtle, but distinct flavor for the Raisin Bran fans. I wouldn’t mind seeing a few other new flavors in this cereal line.

Frosted Mini Wheats Crunch Brown Sugar

Mini Wheats Crunch Brown Sugar

I love brown sugar flavored cereal and Frosted Mini Wheats are good, so this seems like it could be a good match. For me though I am a fan of the milk soaked aspect of Mini Wheats and the “Crunch” portion of this cereal makes me start to think about a comparison to Oatmeal Squares from Quaker.

The box is pretty inviting and I am a huge fan of the layout, so marketing has done a good job at getting it off the shelves, the taste has to make people continue to buy it though. Now to make sure we put Frosted Mini Wheats Crunch Brown Sugar Cereal in the shopping cart for next week and see if it lives up to our expectations.

Honey Bunches of Oats Tropical Blend

Honey Bunches of Oats Tropical Blend

I picked this box up at least four times and ended up just putting it back on the shelf. Even as a cereal lover, I couldn’t bring myself to want to try the crunchy coconut and crispy mango flavor of the cereal. Now the interesting part is that the mango isn’t freeze-dried fruit but flavored flakes and the coconut is flavored granola clusters.

Now maybe is also had something to do with the season, like I can see this being a cereal that may do better in the warmer months rather than the middle of winter, but it still really doesn’t get me hyped to try it. So do you find yourself wishing for a bowl of Tropical Blends Honey Bunches of Oats Cereal while swinging on a hammock in a nice summer breeze?

Elmo C Is For Cereal Sesame Street

Elmo C Is For Cereal Sesame Street

When you have Sesame Street and Elmo it makes sense to brand as many items as possible. C is for Cereal is a great idea where you have Elmo as the spokesperson for a natural apple flavored cereal. The packaging is perfect for the kids and gives the parents a bunch of facts as to why they should be buying the product.

Now where Elmo and his C is for Cereal from Sesame Street do not do it for me is the X and O pieces. They have A is for Apple and C is for Cereal but give us X and O pieces. I am sure the kids don’t mind, but Elmo can you give me the whole alphabet or at least A and C.

Chocolatey Strawberry Special K Cereal Review

Special K Chocolatey Strawberry Cereal

We LOVE to try all the Limited Edition Cereals and Kellog’s and Special K bring us a new flavor to try called Chocolatey Strawberry. I don’t really know why it they went with Chocolatey over just Chocolate Strawberry when Special K isn’t normally geared toward kids, but here we are. So what did the parents and the kids think of Chocolatey Strawberry Special K Cereal:

Originality – Chocolate Strawberry is the hot new flavor for adults so it makes sense for Special K to try their hand at it with Strawberries and chocolate slivers.

Aftertaste – The chocolate had an aftertaste to it that was not all that pleasant.

Mouth Feel – It is like Special K crunch with pieces of freeze dried strawberries and slivers of chocolate.

Sweetness – It was not overly sweet at all, the strawberries and chocolate made it have a more flavor than regular Special K.

Flavor – The flakes and strawberries were fine, but the chocolate quality was not up to par and was very waxy. For a cereal like this I think they should have upped the quality of the chocolate to make this a high-end cereal for the adults. That may be the difference that while kids can’t really tell, parents can tell different quality of chocolate.

Look – Special K with good-looking and sized strawberries and waxy looking chocolate slivers.

Packaging – The packing is a bit over exaggerated with the look of the strawberries and chocolate. The strawberries are freeze-dried so they aren’t as plump as they look, I guess you could let them sit in the milk longer, but then your flakes will get too soggy. The chocolate did not look like that at all in my bowl.

Around the Table – I think Kid C giving it a 1 was generous on his part based on the look on his face. While both Jocelin Cap and myself were not impressed with the cereal we did realize that if you got strawberry and chocolate on the same spoonful it did make it taste a bit better. Can’t fault Kellogg’s Special K for trying to tap a new flavor for its audience, I just don’t think this one worked for us. If I was going Special K I would rather cut my own fruit to put it in it.

The following scores (out of 5) were recorded during our cereal taste testing of Chocolatey Strawberry Special K:
Damon Cap – 2
Jocelin Cap – 2.5
Kids C – 1

Coco Jones Talks Cereal

coco-jones-holla-at-the-dj

Favorite Cereal: I’m the worst person to ask this, because my favorite cereal changes all the time. Right now, I really love Frosted Flakes, but if you asked me the same question next week, it would probably be a different answer.

Coco Jones was first thrust into the spotlight when she was featured  on Radio Disney’s ”Next Big Thing”, or “N.B.T.”, starred in the Disney Channel movie Let It Shine. Her song, “Real You,” has been featured on-air on Radio Disney and is also available online at Radio Disney, along with her song “U B U.” She was later featured on the Shake It Up: Live 2 Dance soundtrack for the TV Series “Shake It Up,” performing the song “Don’t Push Me,” a feisty danced themed song, and “Whodunit” an upbeat dance song featuring Adam Hicks. She recently guest starred on the January 20th episode of “Good Luck Charlie” entitled ”All Fall Down.”

Peanut Butter Toast Crunch Cereal Review

Peanut Butter Toast Crunch Cereal

Cinnamon Toast Crunch is my favorite cereal of all time, so how would its family member Peanut Butter Toast Crunch do in our household? We all love to have peanut butter on our toast from time to time, and it even says that it is made with real peanut butter right on the box so we were excited to get it in our bowls.

Peanut Butter Toast Crunch Cereal:

Originality – when you think about toast, you think of butter, cinnamon, and peanut butter so it is a great idea for an extension of the brand. The surprise here is that they did not go after a known peanut butter brand name to partner it with.

Aftertaste – No aftertaste.

Mouth Feel – Same as Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Crunchy at first without hurting your mouth and even when they get soaked provide a smoother texture that is still enjoyable.

Sweetness – Nice level of sweetness

Flavor – The house had all different thoughts on the flavor. I thought it was perfect and you can taste the peanut butter, but also the toast taste. It is not the same as a peanut butter cereal taste. Jocelin Cap said there was not enough peanut butter taste with Kid C saying too much PB taste to round it out. Take that all for what you will.

Look – Like the look like little pieces of toast.

Packaging – You know you are eating a Toast Crunch Cereal with the bold colored lettering and our friendly baker holding on to a jar of peanut butter labelled “PB”. The color of the box makes sure you are not picking up one of the other Toast Crunch Cereal options.

Around the Table – It is interesting that we all thought it had differing levels of peanut butter and that affected our scores. Jocelin Cap commented that it tasted like Cinnamon Toast Crunch without the cinnamon and I went on to eat this for a week straight.

The following scores (out of 5) were recorded during our cereal taste testing:
Damon Cap – 4.5
Jocelin Cap – 2
Kid C – 4
Kid N – does not like peanut butter
